Meetings

Our monthly meetings run for two hours from 7 to 9 pm. We have tea and biscuits.

  • First hour: Consciousness-raising. Just as our feminist foremothers did in the old days, we read stuff, learn stuff, and talk about it. We examine the class condition of women particularly as it relates to patriarchy as a way of helping us understand how women are oppressed through things such as pornography and objectified through things such as advertising. Yes, there is some theory involved, but men don’t have the monopoly on theory* so we do a bit of theory so that we are more coherent and effective in the second hour, which is …
  • Second hour: Strategy and activism. This is where we put the theory into practice by planning our political projects. Our strategies include pamphleteering, marching, holding rallies, picketing, making shop-owners feel uncomfortable, sending delegations to politicians, and sticker-bombing exploitative images of women. This last one is particularly fun. Sometimes, we write emails, but we have found that the capitalist pigs tend to ignore them.

*Well, actually, they do, but we are working to change that …

Activities

This includes the activism mentioned above (pamphleteering, sticker-bombing, rallying), which is carried out on an ad hoc basis; but we also hold regular movie screenings and excursions. Upcoming activities include:

You can become a member by attending one of our monthly meetings. We’ll sort out the paperwork, then. Email us with any inquiries at women@womensactionalliance.org.

Men’s Auxiliary

The WAAC acknowledges that blokes can be useful, and so we have a Men’s Auxiliary. Auxiliary membership costs a flat $50, and there are no goodies attached. WAAC reserves the right to admit men when we feel like it, and charge them a blue tax for whatever reason we decide, depending on how much the patriarchy has made us suffer that day. Let’s face it; you kinda need to belong to one of our women members before we will consider you for the Auxiliary.

Don’t want to become a member?

Then feel free to simply give us money. We are just trying to get off the ground, so we have set up a Go Fund Me page to try to raise $400. We will use your money to fight the patriarchy.GoFundMe_DonateNow
